Alton Lendell Crooms, 70, of Jacksonville, went home to be with the Lord on February 24, 2022. Born December 18, 1951 in Duplin County, he was the widow of Geraldine Bright Crooms who he was married to for 33 years and the son of the late Alton Columbus Crooms and Olivia Savage Crooms. He was a chef at the New River Air Station Officer’s Club. Alton was a member of St. Louis Missionary Baptist Church and in his spare time he enjoyed cooking, watching the Lakers play basketball and making things, such as jewelry and wooden, porcelain objects.
He is survived by his beloved son, Elton R. Crooms of Rocky Mount, NC; aunt, Ozelle Sharpless and her husband Casey of Goldsboro; uncle, Charlie Crooms and his wife, Ester of Jacksonville; and his little dog, Sasha.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date and announced by the family.
To know Alton, is to know how much of a good man he was; he was friendly, genuine, very comical and he was his son’s hero.
