Barbara Howland Spinella
October 6, 1933 - December 7, 2022

Barbara Aileen (Howland) Spinella, 89, of Jacksonville, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Born October 6, 1933 in Utica, NY, she was the daughter of the late Leroy P. Howland, Sr. and Elizabeth (Rice) Howland. She was the widow of Anthony J. Spinella, who she married on July 31, 1952. She was a long-time waitress at Vernon Down’s Race Course and Karrat’s Restaurant, both in New Hartford, NY.

She and Anthony went on to own and operate the Horseshow Bar and Grill in Kirkland, NY and Clinton Bowling Alley in Clinton, NY. They went on to manage two businesses in Hampstead, NC- Hampstead Fish House and Martha Ann Motel.

Barbara obtained her GED in her 70’s which she was most proud of. In her spare time, she enjoyed making beaded jewelry, watching her TV shows, and oh how she loved to play Bingo but most of all, playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Anthony Spinella Jr. (Arlene) of Louisville, KY, Kathy A. (Spinella) Eckhardt (G. Martin) of Dade City, FL, Paul M. Spinella of Waterville, NY and Mark A. Spinella (Michele) of New Hartford, NY; loving companion, Troy Foy; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Leroy P. Howland, Jr., Richard A. Howland, Sr. and Doreen M. Cavanaugh.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in the summer of 2023 with details announced by the family

To know Barbara was to know she was an irascible and gregarious person, we lovingly knew “it was her way or the highway.” She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Arrangements are in the care of Coastal Cremations and Funeral Care of Jacksonville.
