Brenda Kay (Hall) Nelms, affectionately known as “The Baby,” passed away on January 21, 2024, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. She was born on February 9, 1957, in Harnett County, North Carolina to the late James Albert Hall and Annie (Willard) Hall. Brenda was 66 years old at the time of her passing.
Brenda led a fulfilling life, leaving behind cherished memories for her loved ones to hold onto. She began her career by owning and operating her own cleaning company, Brenda’s Cleaning, in Harnett County. Later, she found joy working at Tumbleweed Pottery in Apex. Brenda took pride in her work and always approached it with dedication and a strong work ethic.
Outside of work, Brenda had a variety of interests that brought her happiness. She was a devout Southern Baptist who found solace and strength in her faith. Brenda enjoyed reading, flower gardening, and taking leisurely walks on the beach. She also had a passion for yard selling which she enjoyed with her sisters. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and beloved grandchildren.
Brenda will be deeply missed by her surviving family members, including her sons, Mark Nelms (Christina) of Lillington and Thomas Nelms of North Dakota. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through her grandchildren: Meghan Pearce (James), Chelsea Branch (Brandon), Titan Walker, Nevaeh Nelms, Preston Nelms, Hailey Nelms, and Hunter Nelms. Additionally, Brenda was blessed with great-grandchildren, Leon Travers, Ryleigh Pearce, William (Walker) Pearce, Damien Branch, and Isabella Branch.
Brenda will also be fondly remembered by her surviving siblings, she was “the baby” of 8: Annie Webb, Faye Bayless, Connie Gollick, Kenneth Hall, and James Hall. Her presence in their lives brought joy, laughter, and a sense of family unity.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Mart “Andy” Nelms; son, Kenneth Nelms; great-grandchild, Peanut Branch; and her brothers, Dale Hall and James Hall.
Brenda was known for her happy personality, strong willed spirit and stubborn attitude, always unafraid to speak her mind and tell it like it is.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Holly Ridge Community Center at 2 pm. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family and friends to honor Brenda’s life and share cherished memories.
Brenda Kay Nelms will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her legacy of strength, determination, and honesty will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be forever missed by all who loved and knew her.
