Brenda Kay Carter, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 17th, 2024, in Wilmington, NC. She was born on May 13th, 1946, in Beckley, WV.
Throughout her life, Brenda touched the lives of many with her warm heart , radiant smile, and unwavering kindness. She always strived to make a positive difference in the world around her, leaving behind a legacy of inspiration and love.
In 1984, Brenda achieved a significant milestone, graduating from Marshall University with a Master’s Degree in Dietetics. Her dedication to education showcased her commitment to self-improvement and serving others to the best of her abilities.
Brenda dedicated her career to helping others as a Registered Dietician, working tirelessly in hospitals and nursing homes. When she wasn’t busy helping others, Brenda found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Known for her culinary skills, she delighted friends and family with her delicious meals. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and comfort, where laughter and love filled the air.
Music from the 50’s and 60’s provided a soundtrack to Brenda’s life. She would often be found singing along to her favorite tunes, bringing joy to those around her. Family and friends were always at the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Brenda had a deep love for animals of all kinds, finding solace and companionship in their presence. She treasured the beauty of nature, especially the mountains, and enjoyed traveling to places that allowed her to immerse herself in their grandeur.
Brenda leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of her daughters, Holly Murray and Tiffany West. Holly, along with her sons Anders Martin and Joe Murray, will forever hold dear the love and guidance Brenda bestowed upon them. Tiffany, alongside her husband Danny West and their son Matthew West, will carry Brenda’s spirit and love throughout their lives.
Brenda’s brother, Jerry Lilly, and his wife Karen Lilly will remember her as a sister who brought light into their lives.
Though Brenda’s physical presence may no longer be with us, her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the memories she created and the love she shared. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
May we find solace in the thought that Brenda now rests in eternal peace.
A private celebration of life service will be later in the spring.

My oh my, just learned of the passing of Brenda. I worked with Brenda at the NC Coop Ext Service. She had a sweet spirit. My heartfelt condolences to her daughters and family.
