Charles Daniel Boone, age 86, of Leland, North Carolina passed away peacefully July 16, 2024. Born February 8, 1938 to William McKinley Boone and Rebekah Bowie Compton, he was a dedicated family man. Charles had many accomplishments throughout his life and his family was among his most prized. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, V. Anne Edelen, his children Elizabeth (Michael), Charles (Elizabeth) and Susan (Randy), nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Charles loved his family and especially doted on those who called him Pop Pop. Nothing made him happier than sharing animated and engaging stories of his grandchildren and their latest school, sports, career and family achievements.
Charles also had a great love for his country and, after obtaining his college degree, was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served in the Military Police and had many stories of his time enlisted. After being honorably discharged, he entered the workforce and spent his career climbing the corporate ladder. His job responsibilities took his family to eight states, and ultimately culminated in his position overseeing the national salesforce of a Fortune 500 company. He was a high achiever and worked hard to reach his goals.
Upon retirement, Charles and Anne opened his ancestral home as a Bed and Breakfast. He was proud of his heritage and happy others could share in the beauty and history of the home. His love of history also lead to his involvement in many genealogical societies wherein he filled leadership roles.
In addition to history, Charles had a great passion for Washington, DC sports teams of the 1940s through 1970s. He knew all the player and coach statistics and was nearly impossible to stump with any trivia question. This was especially true for queries pertaining to the Washington Senators, Cleveland Indians or Washington Redskins as those were his favorite teams.
Charles was a proud, insightful, and positive person who enjoyed recognizing others for their work. As such, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to recognize the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare staff who insured his final transition was a peaceful and respectful process. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Anne and family,
So very sorry and distressed to hear of Charles’ passing. We pray that you find comfort in knowing that Charles is with God now and that he was greeted by other family and friends who went before him. I expect that my Dad, French, is happily showing Charles the ropes on the other side.
Love, your Owens Family
