Clark Henry Whitworth, of Jacksonville, passed away on September 15, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. He was born June 6, 1964, in Pomona, CA to the late Robert T. Whitworth and Carolyn (Beattie) Whitworth. Clark fought a valiant battle against lung cancer but ultimately succumbed to the illness at the age of 60, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered with both tears and laughter.
After graduating from Anderson High School, he went on to proudly serve in the US Marine Corps, a testament to his dedication and sense of duty. He previously resided in Chino, CA, and Cottonwood, CA, before making Jacksonville, NC, his final home.
A man of many talents, Clark’s work experience spanned construction, maintenance, and most recently, plumbing. He was the kind of guy who could fix anything.
Clark’s interests were as diverse as his skill set. He was passionate about landscaping and the art of maintaining beautiful lawns; he called himself “solar powered.” His meticulous care and attention to detail gave him a yard to envy. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life such as working outside, spending a quiet day fishing, grilling the perfect steak, or watching sports, especially the Miami Dolphins play football; he was the world’s biggest fan!
Clark leaves behind a family who adored him. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Allison Whitworth of Jacksonville, who he doted on and had a special, close-knit bond with. Also surviving are his beloved sister, Robin Collier of Hubert; brother, Tom Whitworth of Lindale, TX; Aunt Linda, Uncle Don, and Uncle Ronnie; nieces and nephews, Samantha, Kyle, Ami, Scotty, and Brian; and his great-niece, Charlie Jo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Bobby” Whitworth.
Clark had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help others. He loved his family more than anything and made sure they knew it every single day. Whether it was fixing a leaky faucet, offering a shoulder to cry on, or cracking a joke to lighten the mood, Clark was there for those he loved.
A private service will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate the life of a man who was as dependable as he was delightful; details will be announced by the family.
