Daniel Joseph Gillespie III
January 16, 1965 - October 9, 2022

Daniel Gillespie, III, 57, passed away on Sunday, October 9. Dan is survived by his daughter, Molly Tropeano (Charlotte, NC), son Daniel Gillespie, IV (Wrightsville Beach, NC), and son-in-law Tom Tropeano; his sisters, Kathy Blanche (Port Tobacco, MD), Cheryl Kenny (Manassas, VA), and Debbie Frey (Savannah, TN), and brother-in-laws, Mark Kenny and Joel Frey as well as many nieces. He is predeceased by his parents, Dan and Eleanor Gillespie and brother-in-law, Jim Blanche.
Dan always had a larger than life attitude. He always strived to be the life of the party and never failed to make people smile when he was around. He created a lasting impact coaching youth and high school sports, mainly soccer, with so many people. If you ever were around during that time, remember to “see the field”. Dan also loved playing golf and his Maryland Terps. Unfortunately, his golf game and his Terps were never that good, but that didn’t stop his love for both.
Dan grew up in Maryland. During that time he was passionate for fishing and boating with his friends and father, eating blue crabs, rock and roll, and cheering on the Washington Redskins. Dan created lasting memories with friends and family in Hilton Head Island, High Point, Greensboro, and Wilmington.
Dan touched the hearts of everyone he encountered and was loved by so many people. In his honor and by his wishes, we will celebrate the life of Daniel Gillespie, III at Natty Greene’s Brewing Company located in Greensboro on Saturday November 5, 2022 from 1pm-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jamestown Youth League (JYL Sports) to go towards financial assistance for families and children. Please visit their website, JYLsports.com.
