David “Rex” Lamm, Jr.
October 8, 1946 - May 31, 2024

David Rexford Lamm Jr., better known as Rex, of Hubert, went home to be with Lord on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Carolina Rivers Nursing Home. A native of Johnston County, he was born on Tuesday, October 8, 1946 to the late David R. Lamm, Sr. and Mary (Wood) Lamm. He was 77 years old at the time of his passing.

After high school, Rex joined the United States Air Force, demonstrating his patriotism and dedication to his country. Following his service, his professional life was marked by his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to serving his community. He proudly owned and operated Lamm’s Furniture Company in Elkin, NC, where he built not just a successful business but also lasting relationships with friends and customers alike. Rex dedicated his career to the Furniture Industry having been a manager of several companies spanning his career before retiring from Schewel’s Furniture Company.

A man of strong principles, faith and fraternity, Rex was a member of the Masons, where he formed bonds of brotherhood and contributed to various charitable endeavors.

Rex had a passion for life that was evident in his many interests. He was an avid fisherman who was a member of the Trout Unlimited Organization where he conducted seminars teaching the skill and techniques of fishing. Golf was another of his great loves, a game that brought him joy and camaraderie. Rex was also a coin collector, delighting in the history and value of each piece. His enthusiasm for Carolina Basketball was well known, as he rarely missed a game.

He is survived by his loving family: son, David R. Lamm, III and his wife Cindy of Hubert; daughter, Gracelyn Davis of Dobson; his cherished grandchildren, Brittany Tharpe and her husband Will of Yadkinville and Carly Elizabeth Fowler and her husband Aidan of Clemmons; and his adored great-grandchildren, Camryn, Kason and Lucas. He is also survived by his brother, Kevin Lamm of Raleigh and his brother-in-law, Lee Walters of Rocky Mount.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Walters.

In keeping with Rex’s wishes, a scattering at sea will be held at a later date, offering a serene and fitting tribute to a life well-lived, returning him to the embrace of nature that he so dearly loved.

Rex’s life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and the joys of family and friendship. He touched many lives with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will live on through the many hearts he touched.

Here’s to Rex: a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a spirit forever free. May he rest in eternal peace.
