Don Mize Maultsby
February 8, 1939 - June 18, 2018

Don Mize Maultsby, 79, of Ocean Isle Beach, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving Family.

Don was born in Gainsville, FL. February 8, 1939, to the late DA (Danny) Maultsby, and Marie Baker Maultsby. He grew up in Whiteville, NC, where he graduated from Whiteville High School in 1957. He attended Wofford College where he earned membership in Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated with honors in 1961. At graduation he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Army, where he served two years in the position of Personnel Psychologist in New York City. In the fall of 1961 he began graduate study in Sociology at Tulane University. Following his military service he was appointed as Research Assistant at Tulane University where he received a PhD Degree. He accepted an appointment to the Faculty of Wake Forest University where he earned a MBA from Babcock School of Business and Management. Afterwards he began his career in Healthcare Administration. After retirement from Wake County as Employees Benefit Manager, he and his wife moved to Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Those who knew him best admired him most for his character, wit, humility, kindness, integrity, concern for justice, support for others, especially those who were disadvantage, loving devotion to and gratitude for his family and friends, resilience to difficult experience, (strength especially in his battle with cancer). He is held in honor by all who knew him.

Don is also survived by his wife, Nancy Maultsby, of the home, son Wesley Tutor, grandchildren, Keith Tutor, Tyler Davis and husband Kyle, Nicholas Tutor, Megan Evans, and six great grandchildren, all residents of Fuquay Varina, NC. Don is also survived by his twin brother Dan B. Maultsby and his wife Katherine, of Spartanburg, SC, and their sons Alex and Baker, and their families, and by brother Ray A. Maultsby and fiance’, Cindy Reedy of Winston-Salem, NC, and his son Ben and daughter Meg, and their families.

A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at Brick Landing Plantation, 1882 Goose Creek Rd. SW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469, at 11:30am on Monday, June 25, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Brunswick Care Center, 1414 Physicians Dr. Wilmington, NC 28401.

The family will hold a Private Service at a later date.
