Donald Charles D’Avanzo Sr., 97, died peacefully on March 24, 2018 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center with his daughter, Diane, by his side. He was the widower of Marie Laudati D’Avanzo who preceded him in death on December 5, 2017. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary together on July 29, 2017.
Donald was born in Providence, RI. He attended Classical High School, graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1942 and was a member of the Alpha Tau Gamma fraternity. He obtained a Masters degree from Bentley College. He was a supervising accountant with the State of Rhode Island for over 50 years, retiring at the venerable age of 82. Donald was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps in the China, Burma, India Theatre. He was an accomplished golfer and member of the Metacomet Country Club and an avid tennis player throughout his adult life. His greatest joy was being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a devoted friend and a kind neighbor.
Survivors are Donald’s children- Donna Hutchins (David), Donald D’Avanzo Jr. (Deborah) and Diane Miller (Jon) and grandchildren- Joseph and Sam D’Avanzo and Nicholas and Sarah Miller. In addition to his wife, Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ida (Spolidoro) D’Avanzo and his sisters, Rachele Modliszewski and Rose Ciciarelli.
A celebration of Don’s life is planned for August, 2018 in Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

Donald was a wonderful neighbor and friend. We will a!ways have some of the best memoires of him and Marie. We miss them both dearly.
