Douglas E. Collins
October 3, 1941 - March 31, 2022

Douglas Eugene Collins, 80, of Jacksonville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Born October 3, 1941 in Onslow County, he was the widower of Della Ottaway Collins, whom he was married to for 55 years and the son of the late Ivey Wardell Collins and Lucy Saulter Collins. He worked in the transportation industry and attended Verona Freewill Baptist Church. He spent all his spare time at Bojangles on Onslow Drive, he went there every day and if he wasn’t there, he was cutting grass.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Scott Collins (Sharman); daughter, Tammy Collins Leonard; brothers, James Collins (Peggy), Delma Collins (Debbie) and Gary Collins (Kris) of FL; grandchildren, Joshua Scott Collins, Alexandria Nicole Collins, Sarah Marie Leonard and Ashley Hayes, Michael Aaron, Leonard Sharman, Angelina Romero and Enrique Schutz; many great-grandchildren; and his lifelong friends, David Morse and James and Jan Moore.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Carlton Eugene Collins and sister, Norma Faye Thompson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 3:00pm at Verona Freewill Baptist Church.

To know Douglas, is to know how much of a selfless man he was, he would do anything in the world for even a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
