Earl John Yopp, lovingly known as “Jay.”, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2023, in his hometown of Jacksonville, North Carolina at the age of 73. Born on June 30, 1950, he was the son of the late John Earl Yopp and Sophia (Jackson) Yopp.

Jay’s life was filled with adventure and hard work. He dedicated several years of his career as a Truck Driver for American Van Lines and EPE, where he had the pleasure of taking his beloved sons on countless road trips across the country. He cherished these moments, as they allowed him to create lasting memories with his 2 boys.

In addition to his truck driving career, Jay also worked for Mike’s Lawn Care for many years and more recently, for his grandson’s lawn care company, further passing down his knowledge and love for the craft. Known for his green thumb, as he could grow anything in any environment, he took great pride in his gardens and harvested the most amazing vegetables.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Jay had a variety of interests that brought him happiness. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, relishing the tranquility of nature. He enjoyed eating and cooking, particularly frying fish.

Jay was an exceptional individual, not only in his work but also in his education. He attended Jacksonville High School, where he excelled academically, earning the prestigious honor of being the valedictorian. Additionally, he served as the president of the school newspaper, showcasing his remarkable writing skills.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his surviving family and friends. His son, John Yopp, and his wife, Crystal, of Jacksonville, along with his son, Jey Yopp, and his wife, Dorothy, of Texas City, TX, will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. Jay’s grandchildren, Gilbert, John, Trinity, JC, and JJ, were a source of immense pride and joy for him. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Amanda Jarman, of Pell City, AL.

In addition to his parents, Jay is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Perry Jarman.

Earl John Yopp, or Jay, will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. We find peace in knowing we will see him again in Heaven as he recently accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in the name of Jesus.
