Frederick Dean Roney
June 27, 2023

Frederick Dean Roney, better known as Fritz to his close friends and some family members, left his earthly life on Tuesday, June 27th. He suffered multiple injuries in an automobile accident on May 1st, 2023. He was always an adventurous sprit, he tested his and his Porsche’s endurance to the limit, unable to recover because of his ownership of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and other physical disabilities, he was a true fighter until the end. He was a mystique and wearer of many hats, father, grandfather, stepfather and husband. He was called “MacGyver”, and was told if he has a paper clip, piece of string and a piece of wood, he could make anything. He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia in April 1939. He joined the USAF and toured several times in the Vietnam War as a aviator navigator. He resigned his commission, then became air traffic controller with the FAA. Ending up in the southern region where we were waiting to meet, unbeknownst to either of us. After 30 years serving our government, he retired at age 51 to pursue the free life, cruising on his beloved sailboat in the coastal waters of the east coast from Baltimore to Key West, one of those trips was to England from St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. He leaves to remember the wonderful 38 years of sharing his life, his wife, Jerry Roney, step children, Jeff Porter and Kelly King, his children form his first marriage to Barbara Murphy, also of Parkersburg, Jeff Roney and wife Jody, Doug Roney and wife Lisa, Brian Roney and wife Kelly, Kim Bidwell and husband Marc, grandchildren and great grandchildren. There will be no service as per Fritz’s wishes. He just wanted to go over the bridge into the wild blue yonder, My Love, My true-life companion, we’ll meet “Somewhere in Time”.
