Gary Curtis Nix, age 76 of Southport, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 of Lewy body dementia. Gary was born to Curtis Emmett Nix and Ouida Langley Nix in Lakeland, Florida on August 29, 1947. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Binkley of Southport, North Carolina, children Gary Andrew Nix of Little River, South Carolina and Alison Rose Nix of Bradenton, Florida, and sisters Neva Summerall of Ft. Pierce, Florida and Jayleen Cummings of Zepher Hills, Florida.
He moved to Parrish in 1976 where he owned and operated The Grove Nursery servicing multiple counties in the area until his retirement in 2010. After retiring, he moved to Southport, North Carolina, where he enjoyed fishing, gardening and “tinkering”.
Gary loved sports. As a youngster he played little league baseball. He would later share his love of the game by coaching little league and Babe Ruth league teams, leading them to championships in the mid 1990’s. He was not just a coach but a mentor and friend to all the members of the teams and beyond.
He was a wonderful son, father, brother and friend to all who knew him.
The family will hold a celebration of Gary’s life this summer in Florida.

Gary was a very special man. He loved Triumphs! I was honored that he included me for Thanksgiving dinner at his aunt’s house. She was Neva Jane Langley—Miss America 1953. Gary was the perfect gentleman.
