Gary John Lofthus, 74, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in

Gary was born on September 27, 1948 in Opa-locka, Florida to the late Donald Clifford Lofthus
and Phyllis Preiss Lofthus. He grew up in Miami, Florida and later moved to Fairfax, Virginia for

daughters. Gary worked as a Human Resources Manager for Cone Mills Corporation in
Salisbury, North Carolina. In his later years, he left the corporate world to begin a career in
remodeling homes. He was able to incorporate his passion for art in his work. However, Gary’s
biggest passion was his family. He devoted his life to raising four girls and then his two
grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and friend to all. He
will be deeply missed by many and especially by his family.

So sorry for your loss. Gary was my next door neighbor during high school in Fairfax, Va. Gary and his brother, Donnie, were like my brothers. Gary was always funny! Could always make me laugh. He was very kind and outgoing. The world has lost a shining star…….
