Jack Richard “Ricky” Blalock will be remembered as a compassionate funeral director, a talented musician, and a devoted family man. His quick wit and infectious laughter will forever echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
Ricky, also known as the wittiest funeral director in town, has taken his final bow at the age of 66. Born on December 28, 1956, in Sanford, NC, Ricky lived a life full of laughter, love, and an undeniable passion for funeral service.
In his youth, Ricky proudly served his community as an Eagle Scout. He regaled many stories of his time as a Scout and the ethics it instilled in him.
Ricky’s journey in the world of funerals began at a young age when he started washing cars at the local funeral home in Apex, NC. Little did he know that this humble beginning would pave the way for an illustrious career in the industry. Graduating from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1977, Ricky’s dedication and attention to detail set him apart from the rest.
But Ricky was much more than just a funeral director. When he wasn’t helping families through their darkest times, he could be found enjoying the sun, sand, and surf at the beach. As a talented drummer in the band “Sunshine Alley,” Ricky brought rhythm and joy to the hearts of many. And let’s not forget his love for the open road, riding his Harley alongside his adoring wife and friends.
In 2015, Ricky and his beloved wife, Suzie, decided to make the move to N. Myrtle Beach, SC, where he continued his career and touched even more lives with his compassionate nature and quick wit.
Ricky leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Suzie Blalock, and their children Sabrina Abraham (Brad), Eric Blalock (Julie), Nick Blalock, and stepdaughter Amy Critzer (Tim). Ricky’s sisters, Brenda Sears (Alan) and Janice Nevarra(Danny), will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. His best friend of 25 years, Rob Akers, will miss their countless adventures and inside jokes.
The impact Ricky had on his grandchildren Shane and Brent Critzer, Kayla and Natalie Abraham, Landon, Colton, and Elise Blalock, as well as his great-grandchildren Everleigh, Mason, and Luna Critzer, is immeasurable. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and their families who will remember his infectious laughter and playful spirit.
A celebration of Ricky’s life will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11 am at New Hill Baptist Church, 3700 Old US 1 Highway, New Hill, NC 27562. Let’s gather to honor his memory, share stories that will make us laugh and cry, and celebrate the incredible man Ricky was.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Ricky’s name to a charity of your choice. Ricky believed in making a difference, and this is a beautiful way to honor his legacy.
As we say our goodbyes to Ricky, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and the memories that will forever remain in our hearts. The world may be a little less witty without him, but heaven just gained its funniest funeral director.
Rest easy, Ricky. May your journey be filled with eternal laughter and peaceful serenity.
Please take a moment to leave Ricky’s family with a condolence or fond memory.
