Jack Wayne Severe
July 5, 1924 - July 17, 2023

Gunny Sergeant Jack W. Severe, USMC received transfer orders to heavens shores on July 17, 2023.

Jack was born July 5, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Jefferson Joseph (J.J.) and Opal Severe. He served in the Marine Corps for 30 years, 20 in which were active duty. During World War ll (42-46) he served throughout the Pacific, earning 2 battle stars. He served 2 years in Japan and Korea and 3 years in Thailand where he lost his first wife Anong and baby girl U-Nit during civil strife.

After retirement from the military, Jack worked at the Wilmington Post Office where he again retired after working 20 years and receiving several awards. He was a faithful member of Spring View Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church from 1971 to date, serving 20+ years as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Brotherhood and Choir. Jack served 40 years as Mission Director and he was appointed to the Conference General Board for 4 years.

His parents, brothers Jefferson Joseph Severe Jr., Jay B Severe and Sister Jean Armstrong, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Verbee Severe and by his wife of 13 years Vivian Winstead as well as his Stepson Jerry Hazard. Jack is survived by daughter Debbie Lanagan and Step Children Marie Hamm, Randy Blanton, Tony Blanton, Gail Benton. Many grandchildren including the devoted granddaughter Sherri Tadus also survive him. Other grandchildren include Verbee Faucette, Joseph Marino wife Celina Marino, James Shepard Jr., Mark Hazard, Marlena Johnson, Mylinda Duncan, great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Lanagan, Courtney Simonson, Georgia Tadus, plus a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and his wife’s siblings. God not only blessed him with a long life but a large loving family and many friends.

The family would like to thank all the loyal family and friends who visited Jack during the recent weeks.

A celebration memorial for family and friends, at 1pm on Sunday July 30, 2023 at Spring View Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Missions, Spring View Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 801 N. College Rd. Wilmington, NC 28405.

    My condolences for Debbie &Katie,family and friends of a very special man Mr Jack Severe he was a very loving,caring,and kind he took me in as a adoptive daughter about 6yrs ago he has been a dad every one wish they had he always asked me to go to church than finally that day had come I started going to church with him and have been going for almost 2 yrs I enjoyed are lunches especially so we could sit and talk about old times and laugh and eat are salads and potatoes and gravy steak and the desserts my favorite was the cherry pie I’m going to miss you forever Until we meet again Dad)Mr Jack when you feel asleep to go on to be with the Lord our savior yourtook a piece of my heart with you I’ll forever remember all the wonderful memories love always &forever Dewina Jordan &family🙏🥰🌹
