James Albert Millis, affectionately known as Jim, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at his home. He was born on Friday, March 27, 1936, in Corinth, NY to the late Charles D. Millis and Nellie (Centerbarr) Millis. Jim lived a remarkable life of 88 years filled with love, dedication, and service.
Jim spent his career as a Steel Fabricator, a profession he approached with diligence and pride until his retirement. His hands, skilled in the craft of steelwork, were equally adept at casting a fishing line or carving wood into beautiful forms. An avid outdoorsman, Jim found joy in fishing, hunting, and woodworking, pursuits that kept him close to nature and provided solace throughout his life.
A proud veteran of the United States Army and Air Force, Jim served his country during the Korean Era with honor and distinction. His commitment to his nation was a testament to his character, reflecting the values he held dear.
Jim was a man of Christian faith who loved everybody and never met a stranger. His sense of humor and stubborn spirit endeared him to many, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. He had a special way of making people feel welcome and valued, a gift that will be sorely missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Eddie Weaver, Deborah Eddy, and Brian Weaver, as well as all of his siblings, except one brother. Jim’s legacy continues through his surviving family and friends, including his beloved wife of 18 years, Lily Mae Long Millis; his children, Candy Winslow (Randy), Cindy Long, Karen Close (Dave), William “Bill” Weaver, and Bruce Weaver, all of NY, and Eddie Long and Robert Long, both of NC; a special daughter, Bonnie Jacobs; his brother, Donnie Millis, of NY; a special niece who was like a daughter, Joi Lyford; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at a later date; he will be laid to rest with honors in Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Jim’s memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim’s honor to a charity of one’s choice, reflecting his generous spirit and love for helping others.
Rest in peace, Jim. Your life was a blessing to all who knew you.
