James Lawrence Travers
November 7, 1938 - December 19, 2020

James “Jim” Lawrence Travers of Hampstead, NC passed away surrounded by family on December 19, 2020. A small gathering of friends and family celebrated his life at home. There was a lot to celebrate.

Jim was born on November 7, 1938 in Boston, MA to Joseph and Anne Travers. He is survived by many friends and family that loved his kind and mischievous antics: His wife – Judith Travers of Hampstead, NC. His siblings-  Joseph Travers (Catherine Travers), Brian Travers (Joan Travers), and Nancy Travers (Kim Hopper). His daughters- Jennifer Travers (Stephen Kelly) Denise Travers (Thomas Ross). His grandchildren- James Ross (Julia Pawling), Kelly Ross (Christopher Childs), Evan Travers Kelly, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Jim was a proud alumni of “The U” in Miami, FL. His passions throughout life were many, baseball, fishing, horse racing, lawn mowing, buying and selling cars, and more recently, painting. Countless establishments across NC, MA, NY and FL knew to turn on the horse races when Jim walked in.  He was an impressive businessman, able to make friends wherever he went, but what he loved most was being around his family and close friends.

Jim will be missed greatly but his memory will be celebrated every time we share one of his many stories or sayings he had about life. He would want us all to remember to always get the money, that there’s no such thing as a white horse, and that everybody’s gotta be somewhere – everybody’s gotta go some time.

Arrangements are in the care of Coastal Cremations, 6 Jacksonville St., Wilmington, NC.

What a wonderful human being.. I met Jim over 35 years ago… he was the most genuine guy you could ever meet. I have so many memories I don’t have enough space to put them all here. RIP my friend… hope all your horses come in first in heaven!!!
