James Derek Peele, artist and musician passed away peacefully surrounded by love on December 15, 2023 in Wilmington, NC at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. James Derek was born November 22, 1952 in High Point, NC. He is preceded in death by his mother, Alice Chapman and father, James Edward Peele.
Those who will forever hold James Derek in their hearts include sister, Susan Clark (Al) and Vincent Peele (Deb) of Summerville, SC and a long list of dear friends who spent many special hours with him during his last month. James Derek lived every day in living color and music. Both were an integral part of his life.
He saw beauty where others did not and would sit for hours on the Wilmington River front soaking in the smells, sounds, colors and people. Strangers would walk by and enjoy a conversation about weather, fishing and family pets. He loved the beach and the fellowship of fishing with friends or having his favorite seafood meal. He spent countless hours painting, drawing and creating beautiful artwork. He had a gift and spent many hours training and studying art techniques. He wrote incredible music; never met an instrument he couldn’t master and recorded music all night long.
