James “Bo” Rye
February 24, 1947 - December 3, 2023

James (Bo) Arthur Swindle Rye was born February 24th, 1947 in Adrian, Michigan and went to his heavenly home December 3, 2023 after a sudden illness at the age of 76.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert B. Swindle and Jewel F. (Rye) Swindle; infant daughter Christina; brother Albert B. Swindle, Jr. and a beloved nephew, Christopher G. Swindle.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carma J. (Leu) Rye; Brothers: Dennis R. Swindle (Brenda) of Milan, Michigan and George D. Swindle (Maryanne) of Battle Creek, Michigan; Sister: Kathy J. Whistler of Adrian, Michigan. Son: Aaron J. Swindle Rye of Lynchburg, VA; Daughters: Cynthia S. (Swindle) Shively (Larry) of Frankton, Indiana and Danielle M. (Jackson) Oswalt (Brian) of Richlands, North Carolina. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a niece and nephew.

Jim worked for several years for Wacker Chemical Corporation (Stauffer Chemical) in Adrian, Michigan as an assistant chemist. He then continued his education and graduated with honors from Bowling Green University. He was employed by Georgia Pacific in Atlanta, Georgia as a software engineer and then relocated to Apex, North Carolina to work for RH Donnelly as a System Analyst for the remainder of his working days.

Jim was a christian. He enjoyed song leading and occasional preaching. He loved teaching the bible to the young and old. He leaves behind a legacy of an example of a man that followed God.

Jim lived with significant disability for 17 years after suffering a major stroke at the age of 59. He battled the effects of the stroke with the most amazing grace, bravery and strength. He lived everyday with positivity and determination.

Everyone who knew Jim, knew him to be extremely kind and loving with a great sense of humor. He loved golfing, bowling and tennis. He was a passionate traveler.  In his earlier days he traveled to 48 states with his wife that he adored. Jim loved spending time with family, especially family reunions and enjoyed being the family auctioneer during these events for many years. He was adored by many and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life, conducted by his brother, Dennis R. Swindle, was held on Thursday, December 14th, 2023 at the Roosevelt Church of Christ in Jacksonville, NC.
