With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Ingalls Frederick, affectionately known as Captain John Frederick, who set sail for his final voyage on August 1, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on March 12, 1945, in Paterson, NJ, and passed in Little River, SC, Captain John leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, and unwavering spirit.
John’s journey was marked by a distinguished career and a life filled with passion and adventure. He dedicated his professional life to the healthcare sector, serving as a Hospital Administrator at Middlesboro Regional in Kentucky, Santa Rosa Medical in Milton, FL, and Onslow Memorial in Jacksonville, NC. His commitment to helping others continued as he served as Director and Counselor at Roanoke Rapids Treatment Center. John’s expertise and leadership extended to maritime education as the Regional Director and Instructor at 3 B’s Captains School.
Captain John’s love for the sea was evident in his roles as Captain, of the Big “M” Casino Boat as well as Captain, First Mate, and Vessel Security on Southern Cruise Lines’ “Southern Elegance Casinos.” His beloved boat, “Gratitude,” was a testament to his passion for fishing, and he found great joy in participating in fishing tournaments and golfing with his good friends of the Gorilla Group at the coast.
A proud veteran, John served his country in Vietnam from 1966-67 with the 25th Infantry Division, Tropic Lightning, US Army. His valor earned him the Army Commendation and National Defense Service Medals additionally the Vietnam Service, and Vietnam Campaign Medals.
John’s academic achievements include a M.S in Management from Troy University and a Bachelor of Arts from Pfeiffer University, reflecting his dedication to continuous learning and personal growth. Captain John also obtained several certificates from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Preceded in death by his loving parents, John Augustus and Lavinia Ingalls Frederick, John is survived by his devoted wife, Suzanne Frederick. He is also survived by his children; Robyn and Mark Pegram, Kristin Frederick, as well as Suzanne’s children; Jennifer Wade, Alex Ambrose, Greg and Karen Spink, and a combined ten grandchildren.
In honor of Captain John Frederick’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
