John Hafele

John Edward Hafele, aged 78, passed away peacefully in Bolivia, NC, on May 27, 2024. John was born on November 14, 1945, in Staten Island, NY, where he spent his formative years and built the foundation for a life marked by dedication, service, and an unyielding love for family and country.

A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, John served his nation with honor during the Vietnam War. Following his distinguished military service, he pursued higher education and graduated from John Jay College, which propelled him into a successful career in management. His professional journey was underscored by integrity and diligence, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional endeavors, John was an avid animal lover, dedicating much of his time and energy to the welfare of animals. His compassion extended far beyond his immediate circle, touching the lives of countless creatures both great and small.

John was also actively engaged in his community through his memberships in the NRA and the Republican National Committee, reflecting his firm beliefs and unwavering commitment to the principles he held dear.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Arlene Hafele, and his cherished grandson, William Lopez, John leaves behind a legacy of love and strength.

He is survived by his children, John J. Hafele and his wife, Doreen, Jeanette Lopez, and Michelle Thornhill and her husband, Tyler; grandchildren, Rose Walsh, Christine Lezai, Alyssa Baker, and Jenna Fairlie, along with their spouses; step-son, David Miller as well as five great-grandchildren. John’s memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of John’s remarkable life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together to honor a man whose life was a testament to service, love, and unwavering dedication.

Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, John’s journey took him many places, but his heart always belonged to his roots and the values instilled in him from a young age. His enduring spirit and the warmth of his legacy will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Rest in peace, John Edward Hafele. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
