On December 8th 2023, John Paul Teemsma passed away into God’s graces after a difficult battle with throat, lung, and brain cancer. A fighter throughout life, he lived to be 57 years old. John was predeceased by his mother Joan F (Scharf) Teemsma and his father Lester C Teemsma as well as his sister Ellen Francis Colgan and brother in law John “Jack” Domanick. John is survived by many loving family and friends, including his four children who he adored; Amanda Jane (Byron), Brian Thomas, Calyn Jonelle, and Daniel William. His brothers and sister; Robert Teemsma (Kyle), Richard Teemsma (Kimberley), Patricia Domanick, James Teemsma (Jacqueline), William Teemsma (Vivian), Thomas Teemsma (Lisa), and Michael Teemsma (Gail). A plethora of nieces and nephews. John was the youngest of his parents’ nine children. John is also survived by his wonderful, caring, and amazing fiancée Sandy Maund. They had a golden retriever named Buddy and a cat named Oreo.
John graduated from Mineola High School in 1984. John was very passionate about things. He was a very patriotic red blooded Irish Catholic American. He never acquired a tattoo but I am willing to bet that an American flag is what he would have gotten. He loved music; it soothed his soul. He played the acoustic guitar since he was very young. He was a huge Beatles fan. He also loved Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith and the like. He also loved newer rock bands like Creed, Pearl Jam, Limp Bizket, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Collective Soul and such. His family and friends would always be entertained by John’s insanely good air guitar, air drums, and kitchen sink drums he would play. He would remember every single person in his life’s birthday, because it was important to him, and would call you to wish you his best on your special day. He also was a dedicated sports fan. He rooted for the New York Yankees baseball team, the New York Jets football team, the New York Islanders hockey team, and was an insanely huge Nascar fan and went to a few races including the Coca Cola 600 and his favorite driver was Kevin Harvick. He loved Budweiser and Marlboro’s. He enjoyed studying classic cars and other vehicles. He enjoyed camping and being in the great outdoors.
John worked as a garage door installer and repairman for the majority of his life. He worked for Tierney and Courtney Overhead Door, Teemsma Overhead Door, and Crawford Door Systems.
We are working on getting the memorial planned and will update our memorial website with that info as soon as we have it.
Donations should be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care hospice in Wilmington, NC in lieu of flowers. They were so caring and kind and we couldn’t thank them enough for everything.
Arrangements are in the care of Coastal Cremations, 6 Jacksonville Street, Wilmington, NC 28403.
