John “Jaybird” Raymond Laird II 51, of Wilmington, NC passed away on April 11, 2017.
Everyone who ever met Jay was immediately and deeply touched by his unconditionally
caring soul. He had no enemies, only friends. One of his passions was cooking and he
“knew a little something” about Texas barbecue… just ask the hundreds of folks who have
had the pleasure of sampling his tasty cuisine. Being a welder by trade, Jay would never
consider a “store bought” cooker. He would instead design and build from scratch his
ingenious masterpieces, and quite often offer them as gifts to family and friends. This
world will not be the same in his absence as he will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
Rest easy Jaybird, we love you dearly.

I met Jay when he was 7 years old. We started in Charlotte NC.. We lived in Austin for 11 years. Then when I moved to Wilmington NC he soon followed.. He had a kind heart and always wanted to have fun. He loved grilling out. He loved his cats and boy did he have cats. We have one of his cats still. I will miss him on every holidays and every weekend. I loved him very much.
Rest in peace you will be remembered never forgotten his friendliness was just wonderful and he accepted Yankee and it was me and I ever made his Kitty litter cake before I left.
