John T. Hyler, Sr.
September 29, 1936 - August 8, 2023

John Thomas Hyler, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on August 8, 2023, at the age of 86. He was born on September 29, 1936, in Caswell County, North Carolina to the late Addie Hyler and Ruby Barker Hyler. He was the loving husband to Wanda Daniel Hyler for over 38 years. After high school, he proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was an Assistant Supervisor for Lorillard Tobacco Company in Danville, Virginia.

In his spare time, John enjoyed watching football and baseball, particularly the Cardinals and Dodgers. Being outdoors brought him great joy, whether it was tending to yard work or simply appreciating nature. However, his true passion lay in his love of fishing. He was an avid fisherman and spent five out of seven days a week on the water, which is what brought him to Swansboro, NC.

Those who knew John would agree that he was the most easy-going and kind-hearted man one could ever meet. His gentle nature and warm personality touched the lives of many. John held his faith close to his heart and was a member of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving sons, John Hyler Jr. of the home, Tommy Hyler of Mt. Gilead, Roger Hyler (Lisa) of Swansboro and David Barrow, also of Swansboro; brother, Don Hyler (Martha) of Concord; grandchildren, Jordan Nelson, McKenzie Hyler, Chelsea Rose, and Nick Minton; and by his great-grandchildren, Nicholas Minton, Jr., Hannah Minton, Faith Minton, Coal Minton and Katie Minton.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Ricky Menton; sisters, Roma Matthews and Hilda Hyler; and his brother, Billy Hyler.

John Thomas Hyler, Sr. will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will forever live on in their hearts, as they remember the loving and compassionate man he was.
