Joseph Hooper, born on July 25, 1957, in Baltimore, MD, passed away suddenly on July 20, 2024, in Carolina Shores, NC, just shy of his 67th birthday. His departure leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love and a golf handicap he was always wishing was better.
Joe, as he was known to those who had the pleasure of his company, spent a remarkable 34 years working for Baltimore City. In that time, he became a master of both his job and the fine art of office humor, ensuring that no workday was ever too serious.
An avid golfer, Joe could often be found on the links with his friends, perfecting his swing and regaling anyone within earshot with his latest joke or story. His ability to lighten the mood was second only to his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Whether it was a neighbor needing help with a task or a friend needing advice, Joe was always there.
But above all, Joe loved his family unconditionally. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Carol (Christensen) Hooper, his father Frank Hooper, Sr., his brothers Richard and Brent Hooper, his son Gregory Hooper and his wife Andrea, his grandsons Christopher, Aidan, and Declan, his daughter Kaitlyn Miller and her husband Benjamin, and his granddaughter Lucy.
Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Pfarr, his brother, Frank Hooper, Jr., his son, Daniel Hooper, his granddaughter, Sarah Hooper, and his grandson, Logan Leatherman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, allowing all who knew him to gather, share stories, and perhaps even tell a joke or two in his honor. In the meantime, please consider donating to Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, an organization that aligns with Joe’s spirit of helping others.
Joe Hooper may have teed off his last round, but his legacy of laughter and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Rest easy, Joe – we’re sure you’ve already found the best golf course up there.

It is with much respect to Joe as a friend and golfing buddy, that I send my condolences to his family and his many friends.
Joe told his stories and life accomplishments with the excitement and enthusiasm as if they all happened yesterday! I always respected and admired the many successes in his life. Joe will remain in my memories, and always be a part of every round of golf I play! As a friend, Joe is a hole in one!
My dear brother, as with mom, never a day will go by without thinking of you and your most corny jokes… what will be missed most is your compassion and will to help others in need… every time I tell the bacon and eggs joke, I will look to the heavens and give you a wink…as Bobby Lamm does to Terry Kath everytime he sings Saturday In The Park… I have learned so much about compassion and humility from you… thank you for all you have done for me and our family… teaching us baseball, taking us fishing, introducing us to Chicago and always being there as a pillar of strength during our darkest days… you have put laughter in so many people’s souls and it was my honor to have you not only as a brother but as a true friend… I know you will stay out of the sand traps and hazards as you continue your search for your perfect round… say hello and hugs to all of our departed family and friends… I love you my brother… I miss you Joe
Daddy, I miss you more than words can describe. You were the best dad I could have ever asked for. You taught me how to love unconditionally, you were there for me through my toughest times, and never gave up on me. I love you so much.
