Julia Langston Zandy
November 10, 1938 - March 23, 2024

Julia Langston Zandy, affectionately known as JuJu, passed away on March 23rd, 2024, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 85. Born on November 10th, 1938, in Long Creek, NC, Julia lived a life filled with compassion, dedication, and love.

Julia was a Registered Nurse at Pender Memorial Hospital before retiring. She graduated from Presbyterian School of Nursing with the class of 1960. In September, she attended her class reunion and had the trip of a lifetime spending the weekend with her two daughters and shared many stories of her college life. Even after many years apart, her classmates shared stories of her that showed her unwavering love of her profession and how she positively impacted the lives of those she encountered.

Beyond her career, Julia’s true joys were found in her roles as a devoted mother and grandmother. She cherished every moment she spent with her family, and always showered them with boundless love and unwavering support. Her selflessness knew no bounds, and her genuine kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her.

JuJu’s magnetic personality made her approachable to everyone, and her warmth and generosity garnered countless friendships throughout her life. Even as her vision declined and mobility slowed, she approached each day with a spirit of curiosity and a readiness for new experiences. She never wanted to miss out on any adventure that came her way!

Julia was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Thomas Zandy, father Elgin Langston, mother Helen Langston, brother Warren Langston, sister-in-law Jean Fidler, brother-in-laws Robert Zandy and Steve Zandy.

She is survived by her beloved daughters Angela Slagle (Brian), Elizabeth Daniels (Donnie), grandchildren Alexa Warner (Joe Alhlert), Caroline Warner (Greg Andersen), Carter Daniels, Foster Slagle (Oscar Guzman), Colton Daniels (Jaclynn Laubenheimer), sisters Ricka McKeithan, Kay Mrozinski (Tony), sister-in-law Alma Jo Langston, her beloved fur baby Jasper and her loving caregivers Heidi Crosby and Wendy Yadao who she loved like family.

JuJu eagerly anticipated the arrival of her first great-grandchild in May, a testament to her enduring legacy of love and family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 27, 2024, at 11:00 am Burgaw Presbyterian Church in Burgaw, NC, with inurnment to follow at Burgaw Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation in honor of Julia to Burgaw Presbyterian Church 200 E Fremont St., Burgaw NC 28425.

In Julia’s memory, let us cherish the moments shared, the lessons learned, and the love exchanged. She will forever remain in our hearts as a beacon of kindness, strength, and grace.

    Angie and Sissy, Please know that Heaven just became much brighter with the presence of your precious mama. JuJu is one of the finest ladies I have ever had the privilege to know. She will be dearly missed.

    My deepest heartfelt sympathies and condolences go out to Julia”s family. I had the honor and privilege of working with Julia for over 20 years at Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw, NC. I learned a great deal in nursing from Julia. I will always cherish the memories and the funny stories she shared with me. over the years. I love you, Julia. Angie and

    Colton so sorry to hear of your grandmother’s passing. I just see her now from years pass, hurrying up & down the halls at Pender Memorial Hospital. She always called me Denise, I would correct her & she would say, well you look like a Denise. So I just let it go & from then on I was Denise to Julia. Prayers wit you & your family.
