Kathryn Anne Byrd, 63, of Wilmington, died peacefully on July 4, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice after a long battle with cancer. Ms. Byrd was the daughter of Janiece and the late Dr. Wendell M. Byrd, Jr. She earned her B.A. in Fine Art from East Carolina University, and she traveled and pursued creative interests all her life. Ms. Byrd grew up in Richmond, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina. She lived on the Outer Banks for many years and was co-founder of Cloud Nine: A Creative Emporium at Pirate’s Quay in Nags Head before settling in Wilmington. In addition to her mother, Ms. Byrd leaves behind brother Richard (Brooke) Byrd and beloved nephews Mason and Marcus Byrd, all of the Highlands Ranch, Colorado area, as well as many dear and true friends in and around Wilmington and the Outer Banks.
