Lillian Carol Roberson,75, passed away peacefully in her home on October 30, 2024. A Martin County native, she was born November 9, 1948 to Gordon and Verna Roberson. She graduated from East Carolina University with a major in Education. After college, she made Onslow County her home for the remainder of her life.
Carol spent her entire teaching career at Dixon School, where she taught Language Arts and Social Studies. She brought creativity to her classroom and won multiple county awards. She also designed and painted the Bulldog and Mariner logos for Dixon Schools.
A faithful and active member of Carroll Chapel and First United Methodist Church of Sneads Ferry, she served as pianist, organist, choir member and choir director. She was involved with UMW, taught Sunday School, and held numerous administrative roles in the church. Last, but definitely not least, she taught Bible Study 15 years and loved every minute of it. Even as members came and went over the years, they all remained like family to Carol, and most visits and phone calls included the latest thing that she had discovered and couldn’t wait to share.
Carol loved to travel and took numerous tours and cruises, including the National Parks of western USA, Europe, the Caribbean and Turkey. Traveling alone, she made friends from around the world, many with whom she remained in contact.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by sister, Dare Merritt and husband Allen; sister, Joan Mobley; brother, Tom Manning and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 9, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church of Sneads Ferry, 305 Lakeside Drive, Sneads Ferry NC.
Special thanks go out to Traci, Anne, Nidria, Jen, Heather and June of Gentiva Hospice for their exemplary and compassionate care of Carol and the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Gentiva Hospice, 662 W Corbett Ave, Swansboro, NC 28584.

Carol and I were great friends from the first time time I met her at Carrol Chapel
In Sneads Ferry! We celebrated our birthdays together whenever possible. I was in her Sunday School Class and as long as I lived in Sneads Ferry, I was in her Bible Studies each Tuesday. We were able to take cruise together in 2010 at Christmas. We many new friends and continued our relationships for many years
Ms. Roberson was one of my most influential teachers. She had such an impact on me as an elementary student but also as I became a teacher myself. My deepest condolences to her family. She will always be remembered.
