Lowell Morgan Fowler, of Jacksonville, passed away unexpectedly on September 13, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 19, 1944, in Melbourne, FL; he was 80 years old at the time of his passing.
After graduating high school, Lowell joined the United States Marine Corps. in 1968. He proudly served our country for over 24 years, retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant, E-9, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him. While enlisted he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 stars and Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, he continued to live a life full of passion and dedication to his interests, which included boating and loving his animals. He was the type who had to stay busy and could always be found tinkering on something outside.
Known for his playful spirit, Lowell was a jokester and a stubborn handful, yet always a steadfast provider and the best dad anyone could ask for. He took immense pride in his accomplishments and his beloved family, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
Lowell is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Helene (Woodin) Fowler; loving daughters, Bonnie Fowler and her husband, Dickie of Melbourne, FL and Michelle Morris of Jacksonville, NC; son-in-law, Paul Gaffney also of Jacksonville, NC; cherished grandchildren, Jamie Barger and Aaron Darling, Cynthia Poole and her husband, Russell, Christine Bresett and her husband Ron, Zackary Morris and his wife, Victoria Henry, Dylan Morris, and Wyatt Morris. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Mikaela, Randi, Anderson, Lily, Tommy, George, Skylee, Liam, and Ronnie; and his beloved dog and best friend, Milo.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Joyce (Heart) Fowler-Marsh; his step-dad and father who raised him, Carl Marsh; father, William Fowler; daughter, Merri Gaffney; granddaughter, Lisa Barger; and all of his brothers and sisters as he was the last of 11 surviving.
A Celebration of Life service to honor Lowell’s memory will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 12:30 pm at Marina Cafe, 110 S Marine Blvd, Jacksonville, NC 28540, with military honors to follow. He will be laid to rest at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
Lowell will be remembered as a man who was proud of his horns, a dedicated Marine, and a beloved family man who brought joy and strength to those around him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
