Lynn Moore
December 17, 1950 - November 18, 2024

Lynn Owen Moore, rooted in Huntington, WV all his life while residing in Oak Island, NC for the last decade, died from cancer on November 18, 2024. He was 73.

He leaves behind his son Nathan Moore and grandchildren Oliver and Violet Moore of Charlottesville, VA; ex-wife and Nathan’s mother Anne Baldwin Loudermilk; brother John Moore of Oak Island, NC; sister Debbie Pack of Huntington, WV; an abundance of nieces & nephews, wonderful friends, and former students; and a glowing neon orange cactus that he turned on for any kind of celebration. He was preceded in death by his parents Warren Moore and Delores Moore (Bergman) and his brother Warren “June” Moore, Jr.

Lynn loved listening to music really loud, road trips across America, watching Bengals football, throwing darts, doing all the beach things, and most of all being a father. He helped coach his son’s baseball team and boy scout troop, took him on kayaking and biking trips, and had countless long conversations about life and the world. Lynn lived an example of thinking critically, being a free spirit, and not giving up.

Lynn spent his career teaching high school history and economics at Vinson High and Spring Valley High. His classrooms featured a large poster of Martin Luther King, Jr. His lessons challenged students to better understand our country and work toward the promise of America.

Friends are warmly invited to a memorial celebration at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 23 at Lazy Turtle, 601 Ocean Dr, Oak Island, NC. There will also be a memorial celebration on Saturday, December 14 in Huntington, WV, time and location to be determined.

Memorial donations in Lynn’s name can be made to your favorite charity or your favorite watering hole, where you are instructed to quaff a few and tell stories of the great Lynn Moore.

Arrangements are in the care of Coastal Cremations of Carolina Shores.
