Margaret Leona (Cassidy) Lee, lovingly known as Peggy, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024, in Hubert, NC surrounded by her family. Born on January 11, 1939, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was the daughter of the late Leo Cassidy and Celestine (Haggerty) Cassidy. She was 85 years old at the time of her passing.
Peggy spent her working years as a waitress, serving at local restaurants while living in Philadelphia, PA, and LaPlace, LA. Her outgoing personality and friendly demeanor endeared her to countless patrons and coworkers alike.
In her free time, Peggy enjoyed trying her luck at the casino, diving into a good book, and basking in the sun at the beach while listening to the soothing waves. But nothing brought her more happiness than being a mom, grandmother and most of all a great grandmother. Her pork chops, lima beans and ham and Mac and cheese with ham were family favorites, a culinary delight that will be sorely missed.
Bargain shopping was her sport and dancing was her passion. Friday nights were reserved for dinner dates with her daughters, where laughter was abundant and followed by dancing the night away with a White Russian in hand. She moved with the rhythm of life, she was feisty, opinionated, and never afraid to voice her thoughts. Her infectious spirit and love for fun made her the life of every party.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Debra Burnham Mertz of PA, Sharon Burnham Patrick of Hubert, NC, and Lisa Burnham Cooper and her husband, Brian, of SC. Peggy also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jeanine, Shawn, Joseph and his wife, Jeannine, Michael and his wife, Maggie, Nick and his wife, Pookie, Kelle and her husband, Jonathan, and Ellie. Her legacy includes 23 adored great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Jim Cassidy of LA, and his late wife, Marge, as well as her lifelong friend from grade school, Teresa Rightley of PA; and her beloved cat, Maggie, who brought her endless joy and companionship.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin; her son, Joseph, better known as “Buddy”; her brother, Jack, and his wife, Carmen.
To honor Peggy’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. So, raise a glass, put on your dancing shoes, and let’s celebrate a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Peggy, you’ll always be the life of the party in our hearts.
