Milton Joe Humphrey, mostly known as Joe, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 72. A life long resident of Onslow County, he was born on December 7, 1951, to the late Johnson Oliver Humphrey and Lina Bell (Riggs) Humphrey; Joe was one of eleven children.
Joe was a loyal and dedicated man who spent over two decades working for Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company in Jacksonville and later in New Bern, where he held various roles. His colleagues knew him as a hardworking and reliable individual, always willing to lend a hand and share his expertise.
Outside of work, Joe had several interests that brought joy to his life. He had a deep appreciation for cars, often spending his free time tinkering with them or attending car shows. The beach was a favorite place for Joe, where he found peace and relaxation. A history enthusiast, he could often be found reading historical texts or watching documentaries. His love for science fiction provided an escape into worlds of imagination and wonder. Antiquing and exploring thrift stores were pastimes that allowed him to uncover hidden treasures and relive memories of days gone by.
Joe leaves behind his loving daughters, Carrie Humphrey and Heidi Humphrey; his adored grand-daughter, Angel; and his loving sisters, Zelma and Dorothy. He will also be deeply missed by numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gayle; his sister, Lois; and his brothers, Gerald, Nelson, Douglas, Glen, Roland, Donald and Delmar.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 1: 00 pm at the New Wine Christian Worship Center, 1153 Wolf Swamp Rd, Jacksonville, NC 28546.
To know Joe is to know he was truly a “jack of all trades,” whether it being working on a car, home repairs, or building something. He was a laid-back, quiet man who will be remembered most for being a dependable person, he was someone people could always count on. Joe’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
