Norma Jean Kotlas
May 23, 1929 - February 24, 2023

Norma Jean (Defibaugh) Kotlas lived 93+ years and was predeceased by her husband Andy a decade ago.

She is survived by her daughter Deb (Jim) and son Koty (Maureen), 6 grandchildren and almost 13 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She lived a full life in many locations over those years including Wheeling WV, Bridgeport OH, Commack NY, Brooksville FL and Bolivia NC. She worked as a secretary, a dental assistant in her younger years and as a nanny in her 70’s. She loved her life, stayed active in her church and volunteered at Brunswick Novant Medical Center in her 80’s. She road her three-wheel bicycle through Winding River Plantation at 84, proud of her Miss Raspberry license plate. The last 6 1/2 years she enjoyed life at Arbor Landing in Ocean Isle NC. Having Covid took away her independence but didn’t rob her of joy. She was nicknamed double trouble there, and her name reflects how she interacted with and entertained her many friends, the AL staff and the team from  both Amedysis and Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

She will be honored and buried next to Andy at Arlington National Cemetery later this year.
