Patricia Hunter Cottle
August 16, 1944 - November 24, 2022

Patricia “Pat” Hunter Cottle, 78, has taken her passage from this Earthly life to join her family in Heaven. Pat passed on November 24th, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones, at her home in Carolina Beach, NC. Patricia (Ann Hunter) was born to Fostena Parsons and Henry Hunter, on August 16th, 1944, in Wilkes County, NC. She took great pleasure in serving others and was the perfect example of what the love of Jesus looks like, in action.

Pat embraced the spirit of a business woman early in life and took pride in teaching her trade to her daughters and grandchildren. Over the years, she regularly blessed her family, and extended family, with personalized shirts that were made especially for them. It was not at all rare for a grandchild’s childhood friend to ask if they could pick out something from Grandma’s shop or come hang out in her pool for their birthday. Patricia had a profound heart for little ones and was always happy to respond with a, “Why, of course, honey, whatever you want!” Family or not, Pat was always eager to share anything she had with those around her.

Pat attended Global River Church beginning in 2012. It was here that Pat was able to fully embrace the call in her life to minister in the lives of children, working directly with the youngest of these. She was ever intentional to share love and guidance with whomever she met, impacting the lives of all.

Pat was the loving mother of daughters Deborah “Debbie” Benson, Tracy Hogan, Karen Mangum, and sons Michael “Mike” Hogan Sr. and Bruce Mangum; the best ever grandma of granddaughters Kinsey Jones, Jennifer Sommer, Kaylyn Whitt, Jamie Benson, Amanda Goodwin, Christy Hogan, Tracey Smith, Jessica Pope, and grandsons Taylor Jones, John Sommer, Wesley Whitt, Michael “Mike” Hogan Jr., Reggie Goodwin; and the doting great-grandmother of great-grandsons Nathan Wootten, Liam Jones, Ryker Jones, Aydan Hogan, and Ethan Hogan, and great-grandaughters Addison Whitt, Harper Whitt, Palmer Whitt, Natalie Hogan, Alivia Hogan, Hailey Lack, and Aubrey Goodwin.

Pat is surpassed in death by her father, Henry Hunter, her mother, Fostena Parsons, her Aunt Launa “Lee” King, her Uncle Leonard Bascum “L.B.” King, her Aunt Novella Sessoms, her Aunts Roxie Merchant, Sadie Barney, Louise Hastings, and her second husband, Julius Cottle. She is also survived by her sisters, Judy Beard and Rebecca Helvey, brother-in-laws, Rick Beard and Charles Helvey, and her first husband, Alan McGwier.

The family would like to extend their thanks to extended family and friends who have shared their condolences, one very special nurse at LifeCare, and those who have helped in the planning and execution of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Open Arms through CashApp: $OACM1.
