Rachel Bernard, currently of Little River, SC, born on February 12, 1945, in Newport, Vermont, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded by loved ones in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Rachel was a remarkable woman who lived a life full of love, family, and passion. She and her beloved husband, Alfred, were the heart and soul behind three local grocery stores in Vermont and New Hampshire, where she brought warmth and a personal touch to her community. Her journey also took her to Littleton, New Hampshire, where she demonstrated her skills and dedication as a secretary.
In her later years, Rachel discovered a love for shag dancing, reminding everyone that it is never too late to learn something new and embrace joy. She cherished her walks along the beach, finding peace in the rhythmic sound of the waves. A creative spirit, Rachel found great pleasure in painting and crafting, leaving behind cherished pieces of art that continue to inspire those she loved.
Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Bernard, and her dear sister, Pauline Brown. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her daughters, Melody McQuade of Calabash, North Carolina, and Kelly Foster, along with her husband J. Willard of Little River, South Carolina. Her grandchildren, Hunter and Dakota McQuade, Alexander Foster, and Ava Willard; brother, Marcel Campbell and wife, Ruth; along with many nieces and nephews, will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
A celebration of Rachel’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 2-5 pm at her daughter’s home in Calabash. Her remains will be interred at a later date in Vermont, where she will rest beside her sister and parents, a fitting tribute to a life well-lived and a family deeply cherished.
Rachel’s life serves as an inspiration to live fully, love deeply, and embrace every moment. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
