Rebecca Anne Powell
February 5, 1952 - August 2, 2024

Rebecca Anne Powell, affectionately known as Becky, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 72. Born on February 5, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Nickolas and Mildred Markas.

Becky was a beacon of kindness and generosity, always prioritizing the needs of others before her own. Her joyful and loving nature brought light and warmth to everyone she encountered. Becky was deeply rooted in her Christian faith, having been baptized at Scottsville Christian Church in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and was a devoted member of Concord Christian Church in Concord, North Carolina. She also was grateful to be anointed and to receive her last rites from Rev. Cox of All Saints Episcopal Church in Concord prior to her passing.

She found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life — whether it was tending to her garden, walking around the neighborhood, or spending precious moments with her beloved granddaughter, Catherine. Becky's love for the outdoors extended to her enjoyment of cruise vacations and relaxing at the beach, soaking up the sun and sand.

Becky is survived by her son, Steven Markas Powell and his wife Diana of Huntsville, Alabama; her daughter, Karen Marie Crotty and her husband Justin of Concord, North Carolina; her granddaughter, Catherine of Concord, North Carolina; and her sister, Donna Elaine Catherman of Horseshoe Bay, Texas. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Robert Edward Powell.

Memorial services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Concord, North Carolina, with details to be announced. Coastal Cremations of Wilmington, North Carolina, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Becky's memory to The National Kidney Foundation or the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, honoring her compassionate spirit and her commitment to helping others.
