Richard Leroy Gusarson Nelson, 77, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2022 at Lower
Cape Fear Life Center. He was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After graduating high
school, he enlisted into the Navy and attended college upon return. Richard was a humble man
with a servant’s heart. He served his country, he served his church, and blessed his family.
Survivors who feel blessed to have been part of his life include: wife, Judith Ann, daughter
Natatlie (Ava) of Boone, NC, son Peder (Rhesa and Davin) of Sellersburg, In, brother James
Nelson (Jan) of Sioux Falls, SD, brother Gerald (Deanna) of Sioux Falls, SD, sister Mary
Vockrodt of Sioux Falls and his nieces and nephews, inlaws, and cousins.
