Steven David Barlok
September 4, 1983 - March 9, 2024

In the blink of an eye, March 9, 2024, Steven Barlok of Wilmington, North Carolina, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven.

He had been counting the days until the opening of Kure Beach Pier for fishing season until he was struck by a vehicle as he walked. “For I am sure that neither death nor life… nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

Steven was a fourth-generation fisherman who grew up clamming, crabbing, and fishing on Barnegat Bay. At home, his passion for fishing showed. He framed his North Carolina Saltwater Fishing Citations for Pompano, Red Drum and his favorite, King Mackerel. An avid volunteer, Steven drove Hurricane Katrina relief teams from Compassion Christian Church; gutted structures and set up warehouse distribution of relief supplies, with his photos documenting the process. He did the same in the Red Bank New Jersey relief effort after Super Storm Sandy. He also volunteered for Oxford Film Festivals in Mississippi.

Steven was certified in computer repair from Palomar Community College in California, then a student at Northwest Community College in Mississippi. A trip to Mayo Clinic and multiple surgeries due to auto-immune diseases interrupted his career development. He proudly graduated from Home of Grace, then worked as part of their team. He thoroughly enjoyed working as a cashier with the outstanding team at Food Lion in Wilmington. An excellent storyteller and jokester, Steven valued family time most, playing card games and dominoes. He is lovingly remembered as “the uncle who was fun and made us laugh”, who always brought gifts to the children and patiently played hours of Uno.

Steven’s memory is celebrated by his mother, Debra Nelson; his father Joseph Barlok and wife Debbie; his siblings Joseph and wife Jennifer, Amy and husband Robert, Michael and fiancé Elizabeth, and Tyler; his grandfather, Joseph Barlok; his niece Madeline; his nephews, Bradley, Dylan, Thomas, and Michael; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Madeline Barlok.

The Celebration of Steven Barlok’s Life and sharing of memories will be held on April 20, 2024, at 10:00AM, at Seaside Chapel, 105 Dow Road S, Carolina Beach, NC. Following the service, a brunch will be held in the Seaside Chapel Family Life Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to make a charitable donation, can do so in memory of Steven Barlok at: Home of Grace

Cremation services have been performed by Coastal Cremations of Wilmington, North Carolina.
