It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas E. Hlavacek, our cherished husband, father, brother, son, son in-law, grandfather, and friend. Tommy, as he was affectionately known, departed from us after a courageous battle with illness on February 13, 2024 at the age of 60 in a hospice facility.
Tommy was born on December 5, 1963, in Suffern, NY, to Thomas G. Hlavacek and Diane M. Checke. He graduated from Sussex County Vocational Technical High School, class of 1982. Throughout his career as a power dispatcher for NJ Transit, Tommy distinguished himself through his innovative approaches and collaborative spirit with his colleagues. Moreover, he generously shared his expertise in home improvement with his family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand.
In 2001, Tommy united in marriage with the love of his life, Lisa Howard-Babcock. His devotion extended wholeheartedly to his children: Dylan, Kelsey, Kaitlyn, Kevan, Kehla, and Alex, who were the center of his world. As a grandfather to Nate, Liam, Raven, Levi, and Silas, he found profound joy in their presence.
To his siblings, Sherry (Tom) Jones, Sandy (Chuck Mancuso) Hlavacek, Scott (Michelle) Hlavacek, and Debi, Tommy was not just a brother but a pillar of support, fondly remembered as THE BIG BROTHER who was ever-present in their lives.
Tommy leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and kindness, carried forward by his beloved wife Lisa, his children, grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews, and siblings. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Yet, his spirit and unwavering love for his family will endure, eternally residing in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
Thomas Hlavacek will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His spirit and genuine love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends and all the lives he touched.
