Thomas Lee Moon, affectionately known as Tom, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 12, 1949, in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Max Lee Moon and Mary (Zylstra) Moon. He was 74 years old at the time of his passing. Tom lived a life marked by dedication, love, and adventure.
After graduating from Greenville High School in Greenville, MI, he proudly entered the United States Navy. After 20 years of service, he retired as a Naval Chief. His years of service were a testament to his strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear. His strong work ethic and hard-working nature were evident in all aspects of his life, earning him the respect and admiration of those who knew him.
Tom’s interests were as diverse as they were meaningful. He had a fondness for old western movies and found joy, as well as challenge in playing video games. Above all, he cherished every moment spent with his boys. Whatever they were doing, as long as Dad could join, he was happy to tag along. He was a great father, a steadfast provider, and he made sure everyone was taken care of. His love and devotion to his family were evident in every aspect of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice (Waite) Moon, who stood by his side through thick and thin, sharing countless memories and building a life full of love and laughter together. He also leaves behind his three proudest accomplishments: Shad Moon (Amanda), Curt Moon, and Brad Moon, all residing in Jacksonville. Tom’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Nicole Moon, George Lane, and Austin Gregory Moon, who will carry forward the values and lessons he imparted; and his dear sisters, Mary Moon Crankshaw, Brenda Moon Marihugh, and Maxine Moon Kestner, all of Michigan.
Though Tom has left this world, his spirit and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His unwavering strength, boundless love, and infectious zest for life serve as an inspiration to us all.
Services to honor Tom’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced by the family. In this time of reflection and remembrance, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.
