Wanda Fern Duncan “Granny”
April 29, 1939 - August 14, 2019

Wanda Fern Duncan “Granny” 80, of Bolivia, NC peacefully transitioned into eternal life with Jesus on August 14, 2019 while at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick (Lower Cape Fear Hospice). She was born on April 29, 1939 in Rich Creek, VA, to the late Kathryn Elizabeth (Ballard) Duncan and George Washington Duncan. Survivors include her daughter, Allison Elizabeth Davis (Charles) of Bolivia, NC, grandson Christopher Angelo Arcaro (Mariana) of Wilmington, NC and brother Wayne Douglas Duncan (Ann) of Virginia Beach, VA. Her best friend of 68 years Barbara Kubricky (John) of Port Charlotte, FL was like a sister to her. She dearly loved her fur grandchild Indy who was her constant companion and therapy dog for the last 14 years and her great grand dogs Terri and Dora. She graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk, VA in 1957. She began working for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company while in high school and retired in 1991 with 35 years’ service. In her later life she loved crossword puzzles, coloring, Chinese checkers, music, bingo, her daughter’s cooking and most of all watching her grandson bowl. The family extends its deepest gratitude to Katy Ward, NP and her Nurse Melanie at Oceanside Family Medicine, Dr. Damian Brezinski of Island Cardiology, Novant Brunswick Medical Center Physicians, Nurses and Staff, Liberty Home Health in Supply and Dr. Summerlin and her hospice angels (staff) at the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick who all took wonderful care of Wanda her last year of life during her illnesses.  Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. Please wear a shade of purple (Wanda’s favorite color) to the Celebration of Life Service that will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Silver Lake Baptist Church, 4715 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC 28412. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. at Silver Lake Baptist Church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations be directed locally to any of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice locations or a local animal rescue of your choice.

Arrangements are in the Care of Coastal Cremations.

Such a lovely lady Ms. Wanda AKA Granny. Was a sweet and precious soul. I could tell that she was special by the great amount of love her daughter Allison has always displayed for her. I m thankful to the Lord for allowing Granny to see her 80th birthday for which my family was blessed to be a part of. Heaven gained a precious soul and I’m sure she’s dancing to Elvis music on those streets of gold. Allison I know you will miss her dearly. I’m certain that she’s happier than she ever thought possible.

My condolences go out to her family and friends. I grew up with her grandson Chris in the bowling alley. Not only was she not only a granny to Chris but she was a granny to all of us in the bowling center and she treated all of us like family. The world is a lesser place without her in it. But I know she will always be with us in spirit and in our hearts. It breaks my heart I will not be able to make the service. That will never forget you Granny and you will always be in my heart.

Wanda Fern, AKA Granny, will be greatly missed. I was blessed to know her! Her love for her family was evidenced by her words and her actions. Wanda was always appreciative for anything that anyone did for her, no matter how small. Wanda was a free spirit and never held back her thoughts, you never had to wonder what she thought about any situation! I’m thankful to have her daughter as a wonderful friend! The love and care that Allison, Charles, Christopher & Mariana showed her was a testament to the love and care she provided for them. Granny will be greatly missed.
