William Edward (Buddy) Garner, Jr, 85, of Castle Hayne, NC, passed peacefully and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 26, 2020, (Thanksgiving Day) at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Buddy was a native of North Carolina. He was born in Wilmington, NC on August 23, 1935. He was the son of the late William E. Garner, Sr. and Annie Parrish Garner.
Buddy was a loving husband and a wonderful Christian person. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was such an inspiration to everyone that walked in his path.
Buddy enjoyed working in the yard, tending to his flowers, especially the rose bushes, and his grapevines. He also enjoyed golfing as well as fishing with family and friends. His favorite places to grab a bite to eat were Cracker Barrel, Saw Mill Grill, and Texas Roadhouse. He always ordered grilled chicken tenders, mac and cheese, and a loaded sweet potato.
Buddy volunteered his time to witness others through the Outreach Ministries and Prison Ministry, he was a faithful and dedicated member at Castle Hayne Baptist Church for 40 years.
He loved working at Ideal Cement and City of Wilmington where he retired and was proud of his time serving his country in the U.S. Coast Guard.
In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his late wife, Barbara Garner; his son, (Little Eddie) Edward Garner; and his sister, Nancy Andrews.
He leaves behind wonderful memories to his family and friends, surviving is his beloved wife, Denise Fowler Garner of 8 years of marriage, her son, Ryan Rivenbark (Krystyen) and Renee Fowler, sister-in-law. Buddy was a dedicated and loving husband which is why his wife called him her “Care Bear”.
Buddy is survived by his siblings, sister, Joyce Talley and brother, Thomas A. Garner (Elsie), as well numerous nieces and nephews.
Also Billy Fowler, brother-in-law (Linda), Cliff Fowler, brother-in-law; Renee Fowler, sister-in-law, as well numerous nieces and nephews. His best friend, Leroy Horrell, is also left behind in the wake of his absence.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to his friends and caregiver, Brenda Johnson, who took good care of him. Buddy enjoyed Brenda taking him to the YMCA and prayer meetings. The family also wants to thank Ann Giacoman and Freda Garner Spence, Susan Alexander, and Annie Faison.
Due to Covid there will be no services at this time. We ask that you make donations or gifts to Castle Hayne Baptist Church that he loved so much and his church family or click the donation link on this page. Condolences may be shared with the family on this page as well.
Due to Covid, at a later date we will have a Celebration of Life in the memory of Buddy Garner at his home in Castle Hayne.

    Buddy was a loving and kind person and he loved Jesus he used to tell me this all the time , he will be missed very much by everyone who knew him …..

    Buddy will definitely be missed. I enjoyed the times that Renee’ and I talked about him and the things he did and enjoyed doing. He will always be there with you Denise and also you Renee’ in your hearts and in all of your memories. Just knowing that he is with the Lord is and with your Mom and Dad and his loved ones already in heaven. I know that the Lord held his arms open wide and welcomed him in. As always you guys are in my prayers.

    Uncle Buddy was a one if a kind! His memories will live on. Instead if Turkey this year he got to hear well done my good and faithful servant your work is complete. I will always be his baby. He had the joy if 53 years with Aunt Barb, and 8 with you Denise. He loved you so much! He found love when he was not looking, and it was a sweet love that grew over the last almost 10 years. Until we see him again, we will keep his legacy alive.

    I knew Buddy for many years and he was an inspiration to all that wish to have a personal relationship with God he will be missed.
