William R. Hagemann
December 31, 1940 - April 27, 2024

William (Bill) Hagemann of Huntington Station and Calabash, NC (since 2007) passed on April 27, 2024 at the age of 83. Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joyce Hagemann. He is also survived by his son, Troy Hagemann (Jennifer), his daughter Chantel Hunt (Jerry), his bonus-daughter Patricia Orfield (Greg), his bonus-son Daniel DeLuca (Veronica) and his sister Sandra Sposato. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Liam and Ella Rose Hagemann, Madison, Delaney, Bronson, and Tanner Hunt, Dylan DeLuca, Jake, Angelina and Alexa DeLuca and Augustine Celaya and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William A. Hagemann, Jr and Joyce J. Hagemann (nee Kohls) and Todd Hagemann his infant son.

Bill was a graduate of Walt Whitman High School in Huntington Station, NY. He played baseball in school and excelled. His other favorite sports were golf, fishing, skiing, softball, darts, roller skating and dancing to country music.

In his early days after school he tried several occupations and acquired many skills. He tried his hand at carpentry, welding, tree trimming and removal (Top N Drop) and driving big rigs. He was good at all the jobs he tried. Later on he joined the South Huntington School District as a carpenter/maintenance mechanic retiring from that position in January 2006.

As a child, Bill spent many hours at the fire house where  his dad was a member of the Huntington Manor Fire Department (HMFD) and also the House Man. This was an all-volunteer department. This inspired Bill to follow in his father’s footsteps. During his 40 years he went from fighting fired, to becoming the captain of the Hose Company and then rose to Third Assistant Chief of HMFGD.

In 2007 after moving to North Carolina, he missed being a fireman and decided to volunteer in the Calabash Fire Department where he spent several years.

Bill served his country when he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam conflict. He was sent to Alaska where the soldiers waited to be shipped out to Vietnam, but fate had a different direction for Bill. Shortly after arriving in Alaska on Good Friday, 3/26/1964 Alaska suffered from a massive 9.2 earthquake, the largest in the United States. Many of the cities were destroyed by the earthquake or the tsunami that followed. Bill’s specialty was “Heavy Truck Driver” and because of that he was kept in Alaska to build bailey bridges, drive the Alcon Highway with supplies and assist in the cleanup and rebuilding.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Bill on June 29, 2024 at Andrew’s Chapel, 1091 Hickman Rd., NW, Calabash, NC 28467, visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a service to follow.

To help support two things near and dear to his heart; firefighters and veterans: In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in memory of Bill to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or a veterans group of your choice.

I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your beloved husband/father, Bill. No mere words will erase your grief in this difficult time, but peace of mind and hope can be found in God’s promises; one day death will be no more (Rev.21:4), loved ones will be resurrected (Acts 24:15), the earth will return to a paradise for mankind to live forever, (Ps. 37:11,29) the way God intended it to be

My deepest sympathy to you all, especially to Troy and Chantel. I think of you two when I go past the old neighborhood in HS when I’m in town. I remember the two of you and your Parents cause I was the very young lady at the time who use to babysit for you both. My heart goes out to you both. Hugs and Prayers Caroline
